<image:caption>I co-authored this critically-acclaimed non-fiction book with three of my colleagues Antto Vihma, Hannu-Pekka Ikäheimo and Jarno Hartikainen. The book is called Post-truth. Media survival strategies in the age of bullshit and algorithms. Please contact me for more info in English. You can see what Helsingin Sanomat wrote about the book here. Also this piece by Ylioppilaslehti is worth a read.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Feature! – Kirjoittamisen mestarikurssi (Teos, 2022)</image:title>
<image:caption>This is a book I have wanted to see used in Finnish journalism education and newsrooms for a long time. The new Finnish handbook on feature journalism Feature! – The master class in writing helps every writer rise to a new level. In this book 23 feature writers and journalists share their main lessons and tips. I have had an honor to work as one of the editors of this book with two accomplished feature writers, Tuomas Kaseva and Reetta Räty. Also, I write in one of the chapters about how feature writing converts to audio in today’s hybrid media space.</image:caption>

<image:caption>There was a time when the gatekeepers – both in good and bad – were primarily politicians and media executives. Then came the internet, everything was digitized and the world was supposed to become democratized. So how did it go? In our book Gatekeepers – The Struggle for the Freedom of Information, me and Hannu-Pekka Ikäheimo delve into our technological modern times in the aftermath of the great digital revolution. It turns out that the gatekeepers are by no means lost. Rather, the new gatekeepers are even stronger and more cunning in form. The struggle between democratic and authoritarian gatekeeper systems is intensifying.</image:caption>

I worked on this with my friend and colleague Andreas Mattsson, who is a Lecturer and Program Director at the School of Journalism at the Department of Communication and Media, Lund University. The book offers a holistic view to journalistic interviewing addressing interviewers’ tasks and responsibilities before, during, and after the interview. <image:caption>My handbook on journalistic interviewing was released in September 2020. The book is an independent sequel to the Avoin kysymys podcast series. I have written this book to promote professional ethos in journalism and to talk openly about one of the main tools of the trade. The book offers a comprehensive approach to journalistic interviewing, and it is supposed to serve professionals, students and anyone interested in journalistic encounters and endeavors. There’s also an audiobook version available. It was produced by Artlab Productions, and it contains audio material from my past interviews, dramatised interviews as well as a musical score by Jussi Liukkonen.</image:caption>

<image:caption>In this podcast I have interviewed interviewers on interviewing. The series consists of in-depth discussions with some of the top journalists in Finland (incl. Maria Veitola, Ruben Stiller, Susanna Reinboth and Paavo Teittinen). I see this project as an opportunity to explore my favourite part in journalism as well as introduce audience to journalistic practices. This kind of transparency is vital for the legitimacy of journalism. The show has run now for four seasons and all 27 episodes are available in Yle Areena. On second season I interviewed two Finnish presidents, Sauli Niinistö and Tarja Halonen, as special guests talking about being interviewed. The fourth season was a special mini season in which we did an “autopsy” to a story with five different journalists.</image:caption>

In this 15-episode series me and my colleague Riku Salminen host a special broadcast, in which we explore how Finland finally becomes a genuine football nation. The series takes us all the way from Finland’s miserable football history to Finnish footballers’ saving the world from an asteroid attack in 2051. <image:caption>Päivystävät dosentit – or The Adjunct Professors on Call – is a podcast concept I developed with the scholar-come-podcast-hosts Antto Vihma and Miika Tervonen. I have produced or co-produced all three seasons of the show. The idea of the podcast is fairly simple: ask anything, and these guys will turn the topic upside down in a cheerful, but intellectual manner. Päivystävät dosentit was voted the third best podcast in Finland in 2017 (Jakso.fi).</image:caption>

<image:caption>#JETP was a weekly politics podcast tailored like its American and British counterparts. Lively debate and hot takes on the most crucial issues of the week. It is run by my fellow hosts Helmiina Suhonen and Robert Sundman, and features guest appearances from the worlds of politics, academia and journalism. The podcast was awarded with The Education Achievement of the Year (“Vuoden sivistysteko”) by Koura in 2019. It was also on shortlisted as finalist in Audioland Awards 2022 in the category of Society and Journalism. The show has since been put on a hiatus, but me and Helmiina Suhonen made a comeback with mini-series Jetp <3 vaalit during the 2023 Finnish parliamentary election and the 2024 Finnish presidential election.</image:caption>
